Calculate the tip on any bill and split it evenly between diners. In the UK, 10-15% is standard for good service. 15-20% for exceptional service.

About Tip Calculator

Tipping culture varies enormously around the world, and knowing what is expected can save you from awkwardness or accidentally insulting your server. In the UK, tipping is customary but not compulsory — typically 10-15% in restaurants if service is not already included. In the US, 18-25% is standard for table service. In Japan, tipping is considered rude. This calculator helps you work out the right amount quickly.

Beyond restaurants, tipping applies to taxi drivers (round up to the nearest pound), hairdressers (10-15%), hotel housekeeping (a few pounds per night for longer stays), delivery drivers (especially in bad weather), and bar staff (offering to buy them a drink or leaving change). The rules are unwritten and confusing, which is exactly why having a quick calculator helps.

Our tip calculator handles the maths instantly: enter your bill total, select a tip percentage, and optionally split between multiple people. It shows both the tip amount and the total per person, handling the mental arithmetic that becomes surprisingly difficult after a few drinks or when splitting a complex group bill with different courses and drinks.

For groups, splitting bills fairly is a perennial challenge. Do you split equally, or does the person who only had a starter pay less? Our calculator gives you the equal split instantly, and you can adjust from there based on what was ordered.

How to Use

  1. Enter your total bill amount including any service charge already added
  2. Select or type your desired tip percentage (10-20% is typical in the UK)
  3. Enter the number of people splitting the bill
  4. View the tip amount, total with tip, and amount each person owes

Why This Matters

Nobody wants to be the person holding up the table doing mental maths after a meal, or worse, getting it wrong and either shortchanging the server or massively overpaying. A quick tip calculation removes the social friction from the end of a meal and ensures everyone pays their fair share. It is especially useful for group dinners where splitting the bill fairly can otherwise become an awkward negotiation.
